A 17-year-old boy fatally wounded Friday afternoon on the West Side was among five teens ranging from 14 to 16 years of age shot in gun violence Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, Chicago police said.
The fatally shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. in 600 block of South Independence Boulevard in the Lawndale neighborhood. Police said two teens, ages 16 and 17, exited a vehicle when they were both shot. The oldest of the boys suffered wounds. to the upper body and head, and was taken o Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The younger boy was shot in chest and legs, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
As of Saturday morning, the 17-year-old boy had not been identified.
The latest shooting wounding a teenager happened early Saturday morning around 4 a.m. in the 400 block of South Western Avenue.
Police said a 15-year-old boy was a passenger in a vehicle when a black Kia pulled up and someone fired multiple times. The boy was struck to the left shoulder, and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in good condition, police said.
Shortly after 9:30 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was shot exited a building in the 900 block of South Independence Boulevard. Police found him in the common area of the building with two gunshot wounds to the left wrist. The boy was uncooperative with police, and when police found an adult to speak with they were very uncooperative closing the door to an apartment, police said.
Around 6:20 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot in the 400 block pf East 71st Street in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.
Police said the boy was traveling in a vehicle when he was shot in the chest. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was listed in fair condition, police said.
No one was in custody for any of the attacks, and detectives were investigating.
