2 badly hurt in early morning fire on the North Side – Chicago Tribune newstrendslive



A 79-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man were both seriously injured Saturday morning in a blaze that broke out in an apartment building on the North Side, officials said.

The fire started shortly before 3:45 a.m. on the first floor of a two story apartment building at 1138 West Wolfram Street and spread to the second floor of the frame building, the fire department said.

Chicago police said the woman was taken in serious condition while the man was in critical condition, at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The fire was extinguished by about 4 a.m. and its cause of under investigation.
