Elderly woman dies after being struck by FedEx truck in South Loop – Chicago Tribune newstrendslive



A 72-year-old woman died after she was struck Monday afternoon by a FedEx truck while attempting to cross the street in the South Loop neighborhood, Chicago police saiid.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday, the victim was crossing the street from the west side to the east side in the 1100 block of South Wabash Avenue, when a box truck was traveling west and about to turn north. She was struck and pinned underneath the truck, police said.

The victim, later identified as Marsha Frankel of the 1100 block of South Wabash Avenue, was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital when she was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver of the truck, a 21-year-old man, was cited for pedestrian in roadway-due care, police said.

An investigation was ongoing.
