Man fatally injured when SUV falls on top of him near Gages Lake – Chicago Tribune newstrendslive

A man working under an SUV Tuesday was fatally crushed when the vehicle came off a rock that was apparently being used to prop it up, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.

Authorities who responded around 2 p.m. to a residence in the 33800 block of North Oak Street near Gages Lake found the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe on top of the 52-year-old man.

He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, and was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

Police said the man was changing the transmission filter on the SUV and had driven onto a decorative rock, like the type used in retaining walls, probably in order to create more working space underneath.

However, the vehicle came off the rock while the man was beneath it, and it crushed him, police said. A neighbor heard the loud crash and called authorities.

The investigation into the incident is continuing, but foul play does not appear to have played a role, police said.
