National Weather Service officials said there is a 100 % chance of precipitation Thursday which could end in a rain and snow mix.
The forecast Thursday for rain and snow begins after 4 p.m. The day is expected to be cloudy with a high around 37 degrees with easterly winds at 15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph, officials said.
Thursday night, snow mixed with rain is expected after 7 p.m., with a low around 33 degrees. Gust are expected as high as 35 mph, officials said.
Friday, officials are expecting snow possibly mixed with rain before 7 a.m., then a chance of snow between 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A winter storm watch was issued Wednesday morning for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry and Lake counties that is in effect from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning. Officials said snow accumulations up to 6 inches or more was expected in those counties, and cautioned travel could become difficult for commuters.
Current conditions at Midway Airport was mostly cloudy at 42 degrees, and at O’Hare International Airport, it’s 43 degrees.
